At today's England v. Bangladesh 1-day cricket international two WSCB players and Dave's Upminster partner from days of yore combined to produce this line:-

1.  ªK
2.  ¨K
3.  ¨A
4.  (¨Q) declarer throwing ªA.

At this point East cannot lead a © or § without giving a trick away and letting dummy in to cash the 4 ¨ tricks to make the contract.

A ¨ puts dummy in four 4 tricks. Plus 1 ª, 2 © and 2 § tricks can be forced by §Q to §K and §A followed by §10 to §J whilst the ª are still guarded.

A ª to the ªQ sets up dummy's ªJ and West must either put dummy in with a ª or lead a § (the §J picks up all the honours to the §A. Declarer cashes ©A, ©K, §10 and 9 and endplays West with a § to play a ª to dummy's ¨s. A §x can be used to end-play East with the §K), or a © when we can force 3 © tricks. This bit is getting too complicated to bother with!

We think!
